Aruki–Frame panel relationship

Aruki–Frame panel relationship
I think today was the coldest morning in our area. When I went out in the morning, it showed minus four degrees. Luckily, there was no moisture in the air, so the roads were not frozen, but it still felt very cold. They say this strong cold weather will last until the end of this week, so I think the temperature will slowly go up. Time goes fast, and January will be over soon. This month, my work has moved forward as planned, so I feel relieved. I have already started the work planned for February, and while making it, I am also thinking about what to do next.

Today, I first moved forward with making the structure parts for the 3-sun puzzle boxes. I worked on the materials I prepared yesterday and made the parts. While finishing the side panels, which were already prepared, I also made the shaft panels from the materials I had ready. For the side panels, I cut grooves for the Aruki panels. This time, as I wrote yesterday, I changed the thickness of the Aruki panels, so I made the grooves to match that size. When I do this work, sometimes the materials for the Aruki panels are not ready yet. In those cases, I sometimes use leftover Aruki panels from past work to take the size. This time, the size was different, so I cut the grooves to match a board that was properly finished to the correct thickness for the Aruki panels. It really feels best to make things each time to match the actual materials being used. Even if the size is said to be the same, the real materials and older materials can be slightly different. Even when I measure carefully with special tools, and my eyes read the same size, it is strange that when I actually put the parts together, the size can be a little off. This makes me feel again that, for making Himitsu-bako, it is important not only to follow the numbers, but also to adjust while matching the real pieces as you work.

Today, I also did a little work attaching some parts. Come to think of it, it has been a long time since I last made 3-sun puzzle boxes. I had many parts for 3-sun boxes that I made before. I use three kinds of parts, and I attach five parts to each box. Two of those kinds are made only for this box. For 3-sun boxes, I often make a few more than larger boxes, so I think that is why I made so many parts back then. But after that, I did not continue making them…😅 I need to attach these parts before I can move on to the next step, which is working on the Aruki panels. There are many parts, but I plan to attach them today and tomorrow.
I hope you have a nice weekend!
