Cube aruki panels

It seems that many companies are still on holiday until today. The roads were very empty again this morning. That means most companies will probably start work on the 18th. This year, it looks like many people had a nine-day break😁
I worked as usual today. I had some shipments to prepare, so I came to my workshop early in the morning. The extreme heat we had for a while has gone for now, and recently the temperature has been around 30 degrees.

This morning, I used the woodworking machines. First, I made Aruki panels (moving panels) for 2-sun cube puzzle boxes. This one has a 12-step mechanism, so each box needs three Aruki panels. I’ve mentioned before when making a 3-sun cube box, but I find that Aruki parts in cube-shaped boxes are easier to make so they move smoothly. I think it’s because the Aruki panels are longer vertically, so more of the panel touches the frame. Even if I make them a little loose, they still move stably without shaking. However, I have to be careful not to make them too tight—because with this type of box, once it’s too tight, it’s hard to loosen it later.

When the parts move smoothly, the assembly also goes smoothly. Compared to a normal-shaped box, it’s easier to attach the parts, so the work goes faster. Today I already finished attaching the top and bottom panels. I haven’t decided when I’ll do the next step, but I think it will be completed soon.

I also finally attached the outer Aruki-side panels for the 2-sun box today. The humidity has dropped, so I decided it was safe. Just in case, I put them in a case after attaching them. Now the assembly of the 2-sun box is complete.

Most likely, tomorrow and the day after, there will be the big “U-turn rush.” This is when everyone who went back to their hometowns or traveled during the holiday returns to the city, and every year the roads and trains get extremely crowded. Trains will be packed with people, and the highways will have traffic jams stretching for many kilometers. I think I’ll avoid going out tomorrow (though I might still come to my workshop… 😅). Have a great weekend!
