Another Round of 27-steps

It was another warm day today. Actually, a typhoon is getting closer, so I thought it might start raining around today, but it didn’t. Maybe because of that, the air felt a bit humid. I’m glad the typhoon won’t make landfall this time. However, it seems the humidity will rise even more tonight, so I think I’d better put the unfinished boxes into the humidity-controlled case before I go home.

As I wrote yesterday, I’ve started making new Mame (tiny) puzzle boxes. But the yosegi sheet panels I glued yesterday haven’t dried well, so today I worked on the 4-sun 27-steps puzzle boxes that I’ve been making for a while. I made the Aruki panels and attached them, then I also attached the yosegi and zebrawood panels for the top and bottom sides. This time, I added as many traditional yosegi panels for the top and bottom sides as possible, since they’re always popular. I’m also making more of the zebrawood type again, as the stock is running low.

Well, this time I’m planning to make Mame puzzle boxes, and honestly, I had hoped to start a little earlier, but somehow I kept putting it off. Recently, I’ve been making a lot of 4-sun boxes. One of the reasons why the mame puzzle boxes haven’t been progressing much is that the fine work has become a bit tougher for me than before. I guess it’s an age thing, My presbyopia is also progressing 😂 Small work takes more patience now. Compared to that, making 4-sun or 5-sun boxes feels easier — they’re bigger after all 😅
I used to think that making mame puzzle boxes would be my lifelong work. I’m the only one who makes them, and I’ve created quite a lot of them over the years. Well, I think I can still continue as long as I make only a small number, but producing many of them takes a great deal of patience.

By the way, today I uploaded two types of 4-sun boxes with drawers earlier than planned. They don’t include the traditional yosegi type, but there’s a zebrawood version, which I hadn’t made before, and a new one with random wood grain. Please take a look if you’d like.
