4.2-sun aruki panels
Well, today the very hot weather has come back again… but according to the forecast, today should be the peak, so from tomorrow the temperature will slowly start to go down. Let’s believe that! (Though it feels like we always hear the same thing… haha). Since I had something to do in the afternoon, I came in earlier than usual this morning to finish some tasks, and I mainly worked with the machines during the morning. Around 2 p.m. I went out, and it felt just like midsummer 🤣
Right now, I’m mainly working on the 4.2-sun boxes. By the way, I’ve already finished the 4-sun and 5-sun boxes, so for now it’s just the 4.2-sun. The next project is already decided—it’s another 27-steps puzzle box, but this time in the regular 4-sun size. After that will be an 18-steps puzzle box, also 4-sun. Looks like I’ll be working on high-step boxes for a while. These are all orders from overseas shops, but at the same time I’m planning to make some stock pieces of my own. I haven’t yet decided what design those will be.
Today I worked on making the Aruki panels (moving panel) and the top and bottom panels for the 4.2-sun box. Just a little while ago in the evening, I attached the Aruki panels to the frame of the box. Tomorrow morning, I plan to glue on the top and bottom panels and, if possible, attach the side panel (Kannuki-slide key) on one side. However, since about half of the top and bottom panels this time are solid wood, if I can’t allow enough drying time, I’ll continue the work the following day instead. Solid wood panels need more time to settle after gluing compared to the plywood type.
Right now, I have about three new finished pieces that I’m planning to put on my website. I’ll upload them one by one whenever I have the time. Two of them are 4-sun boxes, and the other is a nesting box made with the 14-steps mame puzzle box that I made recently. Among the 4-sun boxes, there’s one with striped top and bottom panels, and depending on how it sells, I’d like to make more of them for the year-end season. After all, it’s already been about five to seven years since I glued that striped yosegi (though of course the quality is still perfectly fine… 😅)
