Rainy day...
As the forecast predicted, it started raining this morning.
Maybe it’s because of the typhoon, but the humidity is extremely high today.
Even though I turned on the air conditioner in the workshop (since it's also quite hot), the humidity didn't go down much.
So today, I paused the work I was doing yesterday and started preparing for my next project. This next one is 3-sun 18-steps puzzle boxes. Most of these will be made for orders from international customers, but I also plan to keep a few for my own stock. This time, I’m planning to make around 50 boxes. And this time as well, I’ll be making several design types at the same time.
From the morning, I started preparing the materials, trimming them to the right dimensions, and building the structural frames.
I believe I might be the only one making the 3-sun 18-steps puzzle box.
I don’t do any wholesale or retail distribution within Japan, so orders can only be made through this site. It’s a slightly more complex box, and in the past, I had some issues with it. However, I’ve already taken care of those problems, so the current version should be just fine—no worries!👍
One thing to be careful about is the structural fragility. This kind of box, where all four side panels move and the bottom panel is not fixed, exists in other sizes too, but for some reason, this particular size had some weaknesses. The main issue was that, because the box is small, the “Axis” parts were too thin. Since the bottom panel doesn’t provide support, the entire box relies on those four pivot points. But they were too thin to hold everything firmly.
So this time again, I used slightly thicker parts to strengthen the structure. However, because it’s a 3-sun size, if the parts are too thick, the inner space becomes too small—that’s always a tricky balance. Also, starting from the previous batch, I made the structural side panels about 0.5mm thicker. I believe this has made the box stronger. As a result, the inside space has become about 1mm smaller on each side.
After that, I did packed work some other puzzle boxes today.
It’s supposed to rain again tomorrow, so I’ll decide what to work on in the morning.
