Aruki panels of 4-sun

It looks like it’s going to rain tonight. So, thinking that I wouldn’t be able to do any work tomorrow that’s sensitive to humidity, I went ahead and made and attached the Aruki panels for the 4-sun 14-steps puzzle boxes that I assembled yesterday. I’ll keep them in a case with humidity control from now on.

I spent the whole morning making the Aruki panels (moving panels) for the 4-sun 14-steps boxes for the first time in a while, but thanks to all my “training?😅", the work went smoothly. Along with the 3-sun 12-steps box, this is probably one of the types I’ve made the most Aruki panels for! As I mentioned yesterday, I made the structure’s side panels a little thicker this time, and I feel that the Aruki panels are fitting more securely as a result. It’s a tiny difference, but this part is quite important for the smooth movement of the puzzle box.

Later in the day, just as it looked like it might start raining, I worked on the finishing steps of the Mame 18-steps puzzle boxes, which had already been assembled. I rounded the corners, sanded them carefully, and for the two types other than the traditional yosegi version, I added a small solid yosegi accent. Then I applied the base coating. The finish provides a protective layer against humidity, but since it’s supposed to rain tomorrow, I’ve stored them in a humidity-controlled case just to be safe.
