Item description
*The traditional yosegi patterns are different on each box, on the top panel and on the front of the drawer. The yosegi design is applied only to the top panel. The bottom panel is made of sliced natural makore wood. The side panels feature an ichimatsu (checkered) yosegi pattern.
Opening method of the puzzle box: 10 steps (including the drawer)
Moving panels and sliding keys: 3 panels / 1 key
Outside size: 5.90 × 3.85 × 2.75 inches (150 × 98 × 70 mm)
Inside storage space: 4.13 × 3.07 × 1.02 inches (105 × 78 × 26 mm + drawer space)
Includes a description (solution sheet) and a gift box.
This is a 5-sun size Japanese puzzle box. “Sun” is a traditional Japanese unit of measurement. One sun is about 1.18 inches (3.0 cm). This puzzle box opens in 10 steps. The lid panel opens at the 7th step, and the drawer comes out at the 10th step. The design features traditional Yosegi-zaiku. Many kinds of natural wood are used in this marquetry. This Japanese puzzle box is made entirely from wood. This puzzle box is handcrafted by Hiroyuki Oka.
"The Japanese puzzle box (Himitsu-bako) is made only of wood, environmentally-friendly products. This a one of traditional art work of Japan. The origin goes back even to the Edo and Meiji era (1800s) in Japan. It has been handed down by the very few craftsmen. I am crafting full-time these puzzle boxes by myself. I had training for 10 years and I'm crafting these Japanese puzzle boxes and Yosegi-zaiku for over 20 years. All items are made in my workshop and shipped to you directly. I will promise that all boxes are of good quality. My Puzzle boxes will move smoothly, because I will check and test all puzzle boxes before shipping.
