2.5-sun box
It’s July starting today. That means half of 2025 is already over! But it seems like the second half of the year will bring even hotter and tougher days ahead..haha😂
Today, I’ve started a new project—a 2.5-sun 5-step puzzle box. As you may know, this type of box was originally made to hold one of the small mame puzzle boxes. Sometimes it's sold as a nested box set.
I had some extra panels for the top and bottom of this box, so I decided to go ahead and make it now—before I forget about them (which happens sometimes when I put things aside for later).
I plan to make about 60 of these, including some with different designs. This time, I’m changing the design of the side panels. Until now, I’ve been using Nyatoh wood, but this time I’m planning to use a combination of Agathis and another type of wood. I haven’t fully decided yet, but I’m thinking the top edge of the side panels will be one kind of wood, and the bottom part will be Agathis wood.
This box is small (2.5-sun size)—but not too small—so it’s actually easy to work with. The 2-sun size can sometimes feel a bit too small, making the work more difficult.
Since it only has a few steps, this box isn’t very popular when sold by itself, but I think it’s a great option for beginners. Personally, it’s one of my favorites.
Aside from that, I also continued working on the top panel for the Knock Box today. I was attaching small decorative stripe pieces to the main panel. Each one is glued on by hand, then pressed firmly using woodworking clamps to make sure it sticks well. It’s the kind of work that gets your hands sticky from all the glue 🤣
This afternoon, we had some clouds and a bit of rain for the first time in a while. It stopped quickly, but when the sun goes away, the air conditioner works much better—what a relief!😊
