The large puzzle box is opened in 5 steps, and the inner small “Mame” box is opened in 14 steps. The small “Mame” box is placed inside the large 5-step box. “Mame” means beans in Japanese. That is very small! And 2.5 sun is a Japanese measure, 1 sun is 3 cm (1.18 inch). The length of this box is 7.5 cm (3.0 inch). Marquetry of Japan (Yosegi) is used for the pattern of this box. Many natural woods are used for this marquetry (yosegi). The Japanese puzzle box is made only from wood. This puzzle box is made by Hiroyuki Oka.

"The Japanese puzzle box (Himitsu-bako) is made only of wood, environmentally-friendly products. This a one of traditional art work of Japan. The origin goes back even to the Edo and Meiji era (1800s) in Japan. It has been handed down by the very few craftsmen. I am crafting full-time these puzzle boxes by myself. I had training for 10 years and I'm crafting these Japanese puzzle boxes and Yosegi-zaiku for over 20 years. All items are made in my workshop and shipped to you directly.
