Specialties and Souvenirs of Kiryu

Specialties and Souvenirs of Kiryu
Last night, I stayed at a hotel in Kiryu City, and after having breakfast, we left around 10 a.m. Today, we drove around the city, visiting my mother’s siblings, her family home, and the family grave. It had been decades since I last visited my mother’s home. When I was a child, we often came to stay here around the New Year holidays, usually riding in my father’s car. Visiting again after such a long time, I found that it was still a very peaceful place. Just like near my workshop, there’s a river flowing nearby. I remember when I was a child, I used to catch rhinoceros beetles on the trees along that river. Back then, it truly felt like a treasure mountain to me! 😊

And one more thing—we had a little free time yesterday, so around sunset we went to a place called Nagame Park. It’s located in Midori City, which borders Kiryu, and is famous for its beautiful autumn leaves. We went there because it was recommended to us, and as you can see in the photo, the view from the bridge is truly spectacular! Although it gets quite hot in summer, I think the large temperature difference between day and morning at this time of year makes the leaves turn such beautiful colors. I’m really glad we went. It feels luxurious to have such a scenic spot just ten minutes from the city center! The parking lot was almost full, and everyone was taking pictures.
And today, we had udon at a famous local restaurant. We had made a reservation in advance, but even so, there were many people waiting in line outside the shop! There was even a line of cars along the road. It seems that many people come from far away just to eat there—and it was indeed delicious!

I bought a few souvenirs, stopping by the station and some other places. And I also received some gifts from my relatives. Most of them are food, of course😊 They’re things I’ve eaten many times before and really like. One famous sweet from Kiryu, Gunma is called Tabigarasu—I’ve enjoyed it since I was young. It’s a thin, wheat-based wafer filled with milk cream, and it also comes in other flavors such as lemon and chocolate. Another local specialty is Yaki Manju. It’s a sweet bun, similar to bread (made from sake dough), brushed with sauce and skewered, then grilled. The sauce is a sweet and savory miso glaze—it has a wonderful taste. There are also plenty of persimmons and vegetables that everyone here grows.Thank you so much!🙏😄 It turned out to be a trip that left us full and satisfied.
Tomorrow, I plan to continue working on my production.
