The knock square box

Today, for the first time in a while, we had rainy weather.
All morning I was debating whether to continue the panel work from yesterday, but the humidity rose to about 80%, so I decided to pause and wait for better conditions.
Yesterday morning, I thought I could still do the gluing work since it hadn’t started raining yet and the humidity was low. But it turned out the rain had already begun during the night 😂
I think it’s best not to rush. The most important thing is to avoid any problems with the box later on. When the timing is right, I’ll resume the panel work.

Today, I did the final check on the 4-sun 14-steps box that I finished the other day, and I also started working on a new project: a square-type version of The Knock Box.
A few days ago, I had already applied the checkered yosegi sheet to the boards for side panels. Since the sheet needs to be well-dried, I think the recent heatwave helped it dry nicely 😊
This time, I’m planning to use a solid wood design for both the top and bottom panels. I haven’t made them yet, but I hope to create something with a slightly unique design.

Today, I prepared the materials and made the frame section.
The mechanism will be almost the same as the 4-sun size The Knock Box I made in April. The size is a bit smaller (shorter), so the internal dimensions are slightly different, but the basic structure is the same.
Last time, I thought the stopper (magnet) strength could have been a bit stronger, but since this box is smaller, the attached panel area is also smaller, which naturally increases the perceived strength. So, I decided to use the same size magnets and screws as before.
I was unsure about the screw size, but ended up buying the same size again.
If the screws were larger, the magnetic force would increase as well.
Since I’m making the solid wood design, I’m also thinking of adding one or two slightly unusual versions to the lineup...
